Over the past month DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), led by Elon Musk has made sweeping changes to work, staffing, and resource allocation at a number of federal agencies including: the Department of Defence, Department of Energy, Department of Education, and more. DOGE’s unchecked authority has generated a flood of lawsuits which have frustrated the team's efforts to cut federal spending, including a recent ruling by the Supreme Court.

DOGE may not have all of the control it wants, but it has successfully obtained information about every recipient of government funds via “read only” access to Treasury files, though it is unclear how this information is being secured and stored.

On May 7 2025 Real ID will be required for domestic airplane travel and admission to federal buildings.
